CBD (known as cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring compound found in the Cannabis sativa plant that has a long medicinal history, and the more anecdotal evidence coming to light on CBD’s benefits, the more popular it becomes. It’s effective. It’s therapeutic. CBD will not get you high (THC is the psychoactive compound in cannabis.). It can be packaged and delivered numerous ways – tinctures, capsules, lotions, and gummies. So you may be wondering, “how do I choose which CBD is right for me?”

Why do you want to use CBD?

Whether you’re looking into the benefits of CBD for sore muscles or to help with anxiety or pain, the below product guide you find the right approach to fit your needs.

CBD Usage Guide

Finding the right concentration

The key to achieving successful results with CBD is using an appropriate amount, tailored to your individual needs. It is important to find the correct dosage for your body. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to CBD. New users should start with products that contain the lowest strength doses.

CBD Oil Strength Explained

CBD doses are expressed in milligrams (mg). Make sure to read the product labels carefully. In the case of cbdMD’s 300 mg CBD oil, the “300 mg” refers to the entire tincture package. Look at the fine print and instructions to get the CBD concentration per serving.

CBD vs. CBDA

CBD and CBDA

Many are surprised to learn that the hemp plant does not directly produce CBD. The plant actually produces cannabidiolic acid (CBDA) which converts to CBD slowly at room temperature, or rapidly when exposed to high temperatures.

“In many ways, CBDA works similarly to CBD, with activity at serotonin and capsaicin receptors. Unlike CBD, CBDA has not been shown to influence cannabinoid receptors, while it has been shown to target the COX enzymes associated with inflammation, a similar mechanism as popular over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs.” Healer

Therefore, if you’re unsatisfied with the results from CBD products, do not assume that CBDA won’t work any better.

  • Healer’s CBDA is more easily absorbed (up to 11 times) when taken by mouth, compared to CBD.
  • CBDA and CBD both have anti-inflammatory properties, but may act via different mechanisms in the body. For example, unlike CBD, CBDA has been shown to decrease the activity of the COX-2 enzyme, an enzyme responsible for increasing inflammation.
  • CBDA may be more potent than CBD for some applications.

Southern Comfort Wellness offers both CBD and CBDA. You should start with CBDA if:

  • You’ve tried CBD in the past in moderate to high amounts and have been unsatisfied with the results.
  • You want to try CBDA’s more powerful benefits.
  • If you are new, or not sure where to start, stick with the CBD drops first.

You can view the products’ Certificate of Analysis (COA). This document tells how well a product performed when checking for CBD and THC levels. If you do not see a readily available COA for viewing, please let us know.

Consult With Your Physician

This is a general guide. Your physician, who knows you and your body, can give you a good idea before starting a CBD regimen. Also, your physician can ensure that you are not taking any medications that might interact with CBD.
