Lavender Room Spray Recipe

Oct 27, 2020 | essential oil

When I have a sleepless night, there’s usually a good reason. Money issues. Relationship problems. Health concerns. I won’t put my cellphone down. There isn’t much that can be done about the cellphone except mustering the willpower to actually put it down. But as for the anxiety keeping me awake, I made a lavender room spray to turn my room into a relaxation zone. And the outcome has been successful (on nights when I can put the cellphone down).

Lavender essential oil is one of the more popular essential oils. It promotes relaxation, treats anxiety, allergies, depression, insomnia, eczema, and nausea. Truly, nature’s gift, as it’s also extremely versatile with many aromatherapy uses…like a room spray. Create a calming atmosphere in your house with this lavender room spray recipe. It’s super easy to put together and the reward can be a stress-free environment for you to relax in.

A note of caution: essential oils are highly concentrated extracts. Do not use the essential oil without first diluting it. If you are pregnant, seek the advice of a doctor before using essential oils.

Materials

  • Small jar with a lid, like a mason jar.

  • 1 ounce vodka (witch hazel will work, too)

  • 10 drops Southern Comfort Wellness lavender essential oil

  • 3 ounces (6 tablespoons) distilled water

  • Small funnel

  • Spray bottle (darker color)

About the Vodka. First, essential oil and water won’t mix. Remember the ol’ water and oil don’t mix rule. If added to water, the essential oil will simply float to the surface, and this can potentially burn your skin. We’re going to mix the essential oil with vodka (witch hazel will work, as well). Secondly, if you are using vodka go with a minimum of 125 proof. The higher the alcohol proof the better. The higher alcohol content will help preserve the room spray. So if you have a hook up in the Russian moonshine community, and can get your hands on something super-high proof, go for it. If not, try a 190 proof vodka from your local store. Doesn’t have to be expensive, though. For aromatherapy, there is no difference between the top shelf and bottom shelf.

Directions

  1. Combine the lavender essential oil and vodka in the jar. Place the lid on the jar. Now shake well for 60 seconds. Shaking will combine the essential oil with the vodka. You need the oil to be completely diluted in the vodka before adding it to the water. Any undiluted oil may end up coming in contact with your skin and could cause irritation. So shake well.
  1. Open the jar. Add the water. Replace the lid and shake once more for 30 seconds to combine the ingredients.
  1. Set your spray bottle on a flat surface, like the counter. Place your funnel in the opening of the spray bottle.
  1. Pour the mixture from the jar into the spray bottle.
  1. Place the top of the spray bottle on.
  1. Label. So everyone will know what is in this spray bottle, labeling the bottle is recommended. Label the bottle with a sharpie, a label sticker, whatever you have.

As needed, spritz your room with your lavender essential oil. You’ll obtain a comfortable place of relaxation. As long as you put the phone down.

Storage: keep your room spray in a dark and cool place. The fridge is excellent.
